Prime Vintage was the brainchild of three volunteers who shared a vision about a fundraiser to benefit the American Heart Association.  The three, Rocky Lee Rhoades, C. Bevan Stuart, M.D., and Elizabeth R. Stuart, were actively involved with the American Heart Association in leadership positions on the local Riverside Division Board.  In 1984 the inaugural event took place and met with tremendous success.  The event is exemplary because it is run as a third party fundraiser; meaning that no staff members from the American Heart Association are involved.  It is truly a volunteer driven event and the volunteers come from all walks of life.  Two things exist to bond the volunteers.  First, they are dedicated to the mission of the American Heart Association which is to decrease the incidence of death and disability due to cardiovascular diseases and stroke.   Second, they are wine connoisseurs who appreciate the healthy consumption of wine and the experiential pairing of gourmet food and fine wine in their exploration for the ultimate sensation.  Each year, the volunteers spend countless hours soliciting auction items, underwriting, and sponsors for the dinner, live and silent auctions.

A black-tie optional affair with a Champagne reception and passed hors d’ oeuvres, silent auction, sit-down five course gourmet dinner, and culminates in a live auction of fine and rare wines!

Attendance continues to grow as the word spreads.  Prime Vintage is known throughout southern California as an event “not to be missed”.  It is a black-tie optional affair with a Champagne reception and passed hors d’ oeuvres, silent auction, sit-down five course gourmet dinner, and culminates in a live auction of fine and rare wines, wine memorabilia, as well as trips and restaurant certificates.  Nowhere in the Inland Empire is there a comparable event where each year a waiting list is maintained because seating is limited.  Media coverage has been provided by such publications as The Wine Spectator, Inland Empire Magazine, and The Press-Enterprise.

Proceeds to date are cresting the $400,000 mark.  Prime Vintage is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and the Board of Directors continues in the tradition of donating countless hours to the event.  Prime Vintage has earned the distinguished Champions of Heart Award from the national center and the founder, Elizabeth R. Stuart was recognized with the Heart Hero Award in 2003 for her untiring efforts in support of the American Heart Association.
